The FoHP Annual Meeting will feature Badger Talk speaker David Drake, lead Professor for the UW Urban Canid Project. We will be gathering at the Midtown Police Precinct community room at 4020 Mineral Point Rd, Madison. There is plenty of parking.

Come early to get a good seat for this dynamic presenter. The room will open for seating at 5:45 PM.

This talk is open to the public and will be followed by the FoHP Business Meeting.

Join the Friends of Hoyt Park and the Madison Mycological Society for a guided nature walk through Hoyt Park. The topic for September is Hoyt Park fungi.

Enjoy this opportunity to learn about the wide variety of things you may have seen--or might never have noticed--in the park.

Meet by the Historic Main Entrance on Regent St. (near Capital High) at 6:30 PM and wear your walking shoes.

Volunteers are invited to a Hoyt Park workday hosted by the Friends of Hoyt Park. We will gather near the main entrance on Regent Street (near Capital High School). Street parking is available on Regent and Larkin St.

A FoHP volunteer will explain the monthly task and limited tools will be provided. We may be working in brushy areas so dress appropriately, bring gloves to protect your hands and wear solid shoes. These workdays are family friendly and a great way to meet people who care about our urban parks. FoHP will provide a light snack and water.

September’s task will be collecting seed from Hoyt’s native prairie and woodland plants. These seeds will be spread in our restoration areas during other volunteer workdays. Bring a hand clipper and a grocery bag or two.

FoHP board meeting will be held from 6:45pm-8pm and is open to the public. Location TBA.

In October we will be planting native plants in Hoyt’s new parking lot gardens. These plants will provide beauty to our new parking lot and food for native insects. Bring a hand spade if you have one and enjoy the colors of Hoyt Park in autumn.

November is a great time of the year to spread native plant seed; some of this seed was previously collected from Hoyt’s own native plants and other seed has been purchased in order to promote diversity. Native seeds need to have a period of cold (winter) before they will germinate. Bring a rake if you can.
