Fall Migration Birding Event at Hoyt Park
On a Sunday morning in mid-September, Megan Heneke of the Feminist Bird Club led participants on a guided bird walk.
Hoyt Park is a great place to bird all year around with a variety of landscapes. Hoyt’s woodlands, prairies and woods edge support a vast variety of birds.
The Fall birding walk identified 37 different species of birds with many different migratory warblers including many bay-breasted warblers, a black and white and a black throated blue warbler.
Birding walks have become another welcome family friendly event supported by the Friends of Hoyt Park.
November 15th Volunteer Workday
The November Volunteer Workday was a spectacular Fall day with temperatures in the upper 60s. Volunteers like these have fun and help to improve the park’s native habitat. Invasive brush was removed from the area west of the Overlook and native seed previously collected in the park was spread in the newly cleared area. Brush removal is needed to provide more sunshine for native plants and seedling oaks. The brush piles will be burned in place once there is sufficient snow cover. A special thank you to Vaughn Ct neighbors Richard and Tara for hosting our workday break.
