History of Hoyt Park
The property now known as Hoyt Park officially became Madison’s first suburban park in 1933. The park was designated as a City of Madison Landmark in 1995 and, in 2018, was listed in the National Register of Historic Places, a national list of historic properties in America.

History of the Greater Hoyt Park Neighborhood
Those who live around Hoyt Park know what a wonderful area this is. Madisonian Jay Rath wrote a wonderful piece in Isthmus in April of 2013. He discusses the history of the Hoyt Park neighborhood as well as the park itself.

What did Hoyt Park look like before development?
In 2020 the Friends of Hoyt Park hired Good Oak Ecological Services to conduct a survey of the Park and make ecologic management recommendations. These recommendations were shared with Madison Parks Conservation Supervisors and can provide guidance for future restoration.
